How to tell a dirty port from a failed one, and what replacing the flex actually involves.

Most "not charging" phones do not need a part. Lint compacts at the bottom of the port and stops the connector seating fully — this is the single most common cause and it costs nothing to rule out.
Only replace the flex once you have cleaned the port and tried a known-good cable and charger.

- Replacement charging port flex for your exact model
- Precision screwdrivers
- Plastic picks
- Wooden or plastic toothpick
- Isopropyl alcohol
Step by step

Clean the port first
Power off. Use a wooden or plastic toothpick to gently scrape compacted lint out of the port. Never use metal — you will bridge or bend the contacts.

Test with known-good cable and charger
Swap both. A failing cable presents identically to a failed port.

Check for intermittent charging
If it charges when the cable is held at an angle, the port is mechanically worn and the flex needs replacing.

Open and disconnect the battery
Always disconnect the battery before removing any flex, or you risk shorting the board.

Replace the flex
The charging flex usually also carries the microphone and sometimes the vibration motor. Note every connector before removal.

Test before sealing
Charging, data transfer, microphone on a call, and speakerphone.
Common questions
- How do I know if it is the port or the battery?
- If the phone runs fine on a charger but will not hold charge, that is the battery. If it will not charge at all or only at an angle, that points at the port.
- Does the charging flex include the microphone?
